Beginning at the monumental Dravidian gopuram of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, the route explores Kovalam's crescent beaches, the cliffside Azhimala Shiva sculpture, and the panoramic Vizhinjam Lighthouse.

Traveling north along the coastal highway, the red laterite cliffs of Varkala rise sheer above Papanasam Beach, where ancient ritual bathing centers on the 2,000-year-old Janardhanaswamy Temple and tranquil Kappil lagoons.

DAY 01

Arrival in Trivandrum and Transfer to Kovalam

You arrive at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport or Railway Station, where your tour manager greets you. You board your private vehicle and make a short transfer to Kovalam, checking in to your beach resort. En route or in the afternoon, you visit the grand Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram, admiring its imposing 100-foot stone gopuram and intricate Dravidian carvings. In the late afternoon, you relax on the crescent sands of Kovalam Beach, watch the sun set over the Arabian Sea, or opt for a scenic boat ride through the mangrove estuaries of nearby Poovar Island. You dine at the resort in the evening.

DAY 02

Coastal Headlands, Azhimala and Vizhinjam

Following breakfast, you spend the day exploring the coastal heritage of Kovalam and Vizhinjam. You visit the Azhimala Shiva Temple, located on a dramatic coastal cliff where a 58-foot stone statue of Lord Shiva overlooks the crashing surf. Next, you visit the historic Vizhinjam Lighthouse on Lighthouse Beach, climbing the interior spiral staircase to the open viewing gallery for sweeping panoramas across the palm-covered coastline and natural harbour. In the afternoon, you stroll along Hawa Beach and Samudra Beach, watching local fishermen manage their boats. You spend the evening at leisure by the sea.

DAY 03

Kovalam to the Red Cliffs of Varkala

After breakfast, you check out and drive north along the coastal road to Varkala. Upon arrival, you check in to your hotel and visit the 2,000-year-old Janardhanaswamy Temple, an ancient hilltop sanctuary dedicated to Lord Vishnu and ancestral rites. Later, you walk along the striking red laterite cliffs of Varkala that rise steeply above the sandy beach below. In the late afternoon, you visit Kappil Beach, a picturesque and tranquil coastal stretch where the backwaters of Edava-Nadayara Lake meet the Arabian Sea. You return to the Varkala cliff promenade for dinner overlooking the ocean.

DAY 04

Varkala to Kochi and Departure

After breakfast at your resort, you spend a relaxed morning taking in the ocean breeze along the Varkala cliffs. You check out and board your private vehicle for the northward drive along the coastal highway toward Cochin (Kochi). Your tour manager arranges your drop-off at Cochin International Airport or Ernakulam Railway Station in time for your onward flight or train journey.

Bring comfortable walking sandals or shoes suitable for sandy beaches, paved temple flagstones, and uneven cliff-top paths.

Non-Hindus are permitted within the outer precincts of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple and Janardhanaswamy Temple, but inner sanctum access is restricted to practicing Hindus under state temple administration rules.

Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple and Janardhanaswamy Temple require strict adherence to traditional attire (dhoti for men, sarees or traditional long attire for women; upper body uncovered for men at Padmanabhaswamy). Respect worshipers performing sacred rites, and adhere strictly to photography prohibitions inside temple precincts.

While Kovalam and Varkala are popular beach destinations, dress respectfully when walking through village lanes, temple approaches, and cliff-top residential areas away from the sand.

Do not interfere with working fishing crews launching catamarans or hauling shore nets along Kovalam and Vizhinjam beaches. Always ask permission before taking close-up photographs of fishermen at work.

Stay on designated cliff paths in Varkala. Do not walk along crumbling cliff edges or discard litter on the beach or laterite slopes.
