Deodar Pagodas and the River Loom
Beas Gorge, Kullu Weavers & Solang Meadows
A focused mountain short break ascending from Chandigarh through the handloom weaving workshops of the Kullu Valley to the cedar forests and kath-kuni timber temples of Manali.

The Story
What happens when you arrive
Ascending the Beas River gorge, the route stops in Kullu to observe artisans operating wooden handlooms to weave geometric wool borders on traditional shawls.
In Manali, ancient deodar cedar forests enclose the sixteenth-century four-tiered timber pagoda of Hadimba Devi Temple, natural thermal springs at Vashisht, and the alpine meadow trails of Solang Valley beneath glaciated ridges.
Cultural Context
Kath-Kuni Pagodas and Valley Looms
The Beas basin sustains indigenous kath-kuni timber-and-stone architecture engineered for seismic resilience, visible at Hadimba Temple. In Kullu village workshops, traditional pit and frame looms weave geometric wool shawls rooted in mountain pastoral trade.
