The Granite Kopje and the Pastoralist
Jawai Kopjes, Rabari Hamlets & Dam Waters
A focused wilderness retreat into the monolithic granite boulder hills of southern Rajasthan tracking free-ranging leopards across ancient kopjes and studying the pastoral coexistence of the Rabari community.

The Story
What happens when you arrive
After an afternoon exploring Udaipur's City Palace courtyards, the journey leads west into the granite boulder landscape of Jawai Bandh.
Open 4x4 safaris with local trackers navigate smooth granite slopes to track wild leopards resting near rock caves, observe marsh crocodiles at Jawai Dam, and study the living pastoral balance of the indigenous Rabari community.
Cultural Context
Rabari Reverence and Predator Harmony
Jawai's billion-year-old granite formations shelter a globally unique wildlife model: indigenous Rabari pastoralists revere leopards as manifestations of Lord Shiva, creating an extraordinary non-conflict predator coexistence without fences or cages.
