Beginning in Amritsar, the route climbs into Dalhousie's cedar forests, walking the alpine meadow of Khajjiar and forest trails in Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary beneath the Pir Panjal Range.

Moving into the Kangra Valley, Dharamshala and the Norbulingka Institute showcase master thangka painters and woodcarvers, before descending to Amritsar for the Wagah Border ceremony and the glowing marble parikrama of the Golden Temple.

DAY 01

Arrival in Amritsar and Transfer to Dalhousie

You arrive at Amritsar Airport or Railway Station, where your tour manager greets you. You board your private vehicle and begin the scenic drive up into the foothills of Himachal Pradesh toward Dalhousie. Upon arrival, you check in to your hotel and take an evening orientation walk through the town. You visit St. Francis Church with its colonial stone masonry, Subhash Chowk, and Gandhi Chowk. You spend the evening browsing Dalhousie's small Tibetan market and dine at your hotel.

DAY 02

Dalhousie, Khajjiar Meadow and Kalatop Forest

Following breakfast, you set out on an excursion to the alpine meadow of Khajjiar, surrounded by dense deodar cedar forests and views of the Pir Panjal Range. You take a gentle nature walk along the forest trails of Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, observing mountain birdlife and towering conifers. Later, you visit Panchpula Waterfall and the Sardar Ajit Singh Memorial, commemorating the prominent Indian freedom fighter. In the late afternoon, you visit Chamera Lake on the Ravi River before returning to Dalhousie for dinner.

DAY 03

Dalhousie to Dharamshala and Kangra Sights

After breakfast, you check out and drive through the scenic Kangra Valley to Dharamshala. Upon arrival, you visit the Dharamshala International Cricket Stadium (HPCA Stadium), set against the dramatic snow-capped backdrop of the Dhauladhar Range. Next door, you visit the State War Memorial surrounded by tall pine trees and landscaped gardens. You check in to your hotel and spend the evening at leisure exploring local market lanes.

DAY 04

Norbulingka Craft Studios and McLeod Ganj

Following breakfast, you visit the Norbulingka Institute of Tibetology in Sidhpur. You take a guided walkthrough of active artisan workshops, watching master craftsmen and apprentices paint traditional thangka scrolls, carve wooden temple furnishings, and hammer metal statues. In the afternoon, you ascend to McLeod Ganj to visit the Tsuglagkhang Complex (Namgyal Monastery / Dalai Lama Temple), observing monks during daily prayer. You continue to the ancient Bhagsu Naag Temple and the nearby waterfall trail before returning to your hotel for dinner.

DAY 05

Dharamshala to Amritsar and Wagah Border

You depart early after breakfast, descending from the Himachal foothills to Amritsar in Punjab. You check in to your hotel, and in the late afternoon travel to the Attari-Wagah Border. You watch the military drill and Beating Retreat flag-lowering ceremony conducted jointly by the Indian Border Security Force and Pakistan Rangers since 1959. You return to Amritsar for dinner at your hotel.

DAY 06

Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh and Departure

After breakfast, you visit Jallianwala Bagh, the national memorial garden commemorating those who lost their lives in the 1919 massacre. You then proceed to Sri Harmandir Sahib (the Golden Temple) and the Akal Takht, walking along the marble parikrama around the sacred Amrit Sarovar pool and visiting the community kitchen (Langar). Following your visit, your tour manager arranges your private transfer to Amritsar Airport or Railway Station for your onward journey.

Dalhousie (~2,000m) and Dharamshala (~1,450m–1,800m) have pleasant daytime temperatures (16°C–25°C in summer, 12°C–18°C in autumn) and chilly evenings (6°C–12°C). Amritsar is warm during the day (24°C–34°C). Bring warm layers for the hills and breathable cottons for Punjab.
Pack comfortable walking shoes for forest trails and studio floors, along with easy-to-remove sandals for temple and gurudwara visits.
The road between Amritsar, Dalhousie, and Dharamshala includes winding foothill ghat sections; travellers prone to motion sickness should carry appropriate medication.

When visiting Buddhist monasteries (Tsuglagkhang, Namgyal) and temples (Bhagsu Naag, Golden Temple), circumambulate shrines clockwise, remove shoes at entry, and maintain quiet voices.
Workshops at Norbulingka are active creative spaces for sacred art. Observe from designated areas without touching unfinished paintings or carvings. Always request permission before photographing artisans, and never use camera flash.
At Sri Harmandir Sahib, all visitors must cover their heads (bandanas available at entry), remove shoes, wash feet in the entrance water trough, and refrain from photography inside the inner sanctum.
Follow instructions from Border Security Force personnel at the Attari-Wagah border, remain seated in designated guest enclosures, and avoid carrying large bags.
Stay on marked paths within Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, refrain from feeding wild animals, and carry all personal waste out of forest areas.
