The Fragrant Canopy and the Soapstone Frieze
Hoysala Temples & Mullayanagiri Coffee Slopes
Travel from the garden avenues of Bangalore into the mist-covered Western Ghats of Chikmagalur, visiting Hoysala soapstone temples at Belur and Halebidu and climbing Mullayanagiri Peak.

The Story
What happens when you arrive
Starting from Bangalore, the route crosses the Deccan plateau to the twelfth-century Hoysala temples of Belur and Halebidu, where star-shaped soapstone plinths display lace-like friezes of celestial dancers and battle narratives.
Winding up the Western Ghats into Chikmagalur, you stay on a shade-grown coffee plantation, ascend Karnataka's highest summit at Mullayanagiri (1,930m), and explore the sacred Sufi ridge of Baba Budangiri.
Cultural Context
Hoysala Stone Friezes and Agroforestry
The Western Ghats of Karnataka unite agricultural heritage with twelfth-century Hoysala architecture. Star-shaped soapstone plinths at Belur and Halebidu carry intricate narrative friezes, while Chikmagalur's high slopes nurture India’s oldest shade-grown coffee agroforestry.
